The
Maxange Caves are located 1 kilometre
from the small town of Le Buisson de Cadouin , at "Mestreguiral",
which is reached by taking a small road which is signposted from the
town centre.
The site is at the crossroads of major tourist
routes.
The
East to West route follows the Dordogne Valley: it connects the region
of Bordeaux and Bergerac with the middle- reaches of the river and
the famous tourist attractions of the Périgord (Beynac, Castelnaud,
La Roque-Gageac, Sarlat), as well as with those of the Lot, further
upstream. The corresponding road system (D25, D703, D660 ) is of good
quality, and allows a connection with the A20 motorway.

Immediate access to the other
major tourist route is provided by the Vézère river
(the Valley of Prehistory) whose confluence with the Dordogne lies
just a few kilometres downstream (road access via the D31, D703, D706).
Easy
access to Périgueux and the north of the Department by the
D31 and D710. Some time from now, connection will be possible with
the A89 motorway, a new link between Bordeaux and the Massif Central.
Easy access also to the south
of the Department and S.W. France (Fumel, Lot Valley, Toulouse, etc.)
via the D25 and D710.
We
should obviously not forget access by rail, because the station at
Le Buisson de Cadouin is a junction of the line Bordeaux/ Sarlat (East-West)
, the Paris line (via Périgueux) and the line to the South
via Agen.
