The
tour of the two chambers that have been discovered and joined by a
short tunnel has been laid out with a view to comfort and safety.
The total distance covered by the tour is 350 meters, the underground
section being about 200 meters. The circuit can be covered easily
by older people.
The tour commences in
the lower chamber, which has no concretions. This allows visitors
to get accustomed to the environment and adjust to the subdued lighting.
The opportunity is taken to give details of the discovery and an outline
of how the caverns were formed. The visitor then proceeds to the upper
chamber and gradually penetrates zones containing more and more concretions.
Continuing, he finds that the central section of the main chamber
is richly decorated with the type of crystallization called eccentric,
which forms on the roof of the chamber and some of its walls. This
type of concretion is rare, especially in the profusion found in the
Maxange Caves. This is what makes
the site of great interest, what makes it unique, and sets it apart
from other caves in the region. The lighting of the chamber has been
done with the utmost care, using all available techniques to create
a truly spectacular display, bringing out the enchanting effect of
light playing on the innumerable crystals.
Ample
car parking has been provided, as well as a reception centre with
bar and gift shop. There is also a childrens play-area. |
